The new series of Later… with Jools Holland kicked off in a massive way with four acts spanning many decades, from current indie pop sensations The xx, to the returning Muse, to 70′s alternative act Public Image Ltd and the Beach Boys who are currently celebrating their 50th anniversary.
Each act played their current singles, with Muse cranking their new single Panic Stations, which sounds like a mix of Faith No More and INXS, and would fit perfectly in an 80′s film montage. Meanwhile, The xx played their soothing and moving number Angels while Public Image Ltd let loose with Reggie Song from their first studio record in 20 years, This is PiL, and the Beach Boys performed the title from their new LP That’s Why God Made the Radio.
In regards to the Beach Boys, whatever front they may have put on for the cameras, there is plenty of disturbance within the band with Mike Love planning to tour without fellow surviving members Brian Wilson, Al Jardine and David Marks once current 50th Anniversary tour commitments are completed.
